#233: Charlotte vs. Bayley vs. Becky Lynch vs. Sasha Banks, NXT TakeOver: Rival (2/11/2015).
This is a Fatal 4 Way Match for Charlotte’s NXT Women’s Championship. It is also the first and only time the Four Horsewomen of NXT have faced each other in a Four Way Match.
The four names present in this match are just babies here at this point, but over a decade later, they are arguably the four biggest women’s wrestlers in American Pro Wrestling. The quality of matches they were putting on in NXT helped spur on a Women’s Revolution within WWE, as the company finally caught up to the rest of the world and began presenting their female roster as being on the same level as the men. The bathroom break 2 minute matches were about to be done away with (mostly) and in its place, a chance for the women to steal the spotlight from the men on a weekly basis.
All four go at it to start out, as Becky and Sasha team up to take out Charlotte, but he fires back with a double clothesline to take them both out. She knees Bayley in the gut, and then gets pulled to the outside by Sasha. Becky throws her into the LED board on the ring. Now we get double team work against Bayley. She comes back with a middle rope dive, and gets thrown instead back first into the turnbuckle. Sasha and Becky try to cover Bayley together, and they get into it.
Becky hits a pump handle suplex that sends Sasha across the ring and to the outside. Becky with a few leg drops to Bayley, and she gets a nearfall off of it. Becky with a Dragon Screw Legwhip to Bayley, followed by an inverted Figure Four. Sasha breaks up the submission, and gets elbowed for it. Sasha places Becky on the middle rope, and misses her double knee drop. Becky with a shotgun dropkick off the top rope. She covers, and here comes Charlotte to break it up.
Big clothesline by Charlotte to Becky, and a neckbreaker to Sasha. Becky breaks up the pin. Another neckbreaker by Charlotte to Becky, and Sasha breaks up that pin. Nice forearm exchange by Charlotte and Sasha, and The Boss knees her in the midsection repeatedly. Huge Spear by Charlotte to Becky, and a big boot to Bayley, sending her back to the floor. Charlotte goes into the ring post shoulder first, and Sasha then slaps her in the face.
With Charlotte on the middle rope, Sasha goes for her double knee again, and Becky cuts her off. Sasha lays both of them on the ropes, and hits the double knee to both! She gets nearfalls off of both of them. Bayley comes back in and hits a suplex to Sasha. Back elbow in the corner by Charlotte, and again, and again, and again! She places Charlotte on the top rope. Beautiful hurricanrana by the Hugger. Bayley to Belly Suplex, and here’s Becky to break up the cover. She pulls Bayley to the floor.
Bayley with a single leg dropkick through the turnbuckle to Becky. She brings her to the ramp, but here’s Sasha with a Tope onto both of them. Charlotte eyes all three of them, and hits a crossbody to the outside onto everyone! In the ring, Becky hits an Exploder Suplex to Charlotte, and the champion kicks out. Becky connects with some uppercuts, and then places Charlotte on the top rope. Bayley is here, and kicks Charlotte in the head. German Suplex to Becky, and now Bayley goes to the top rope. Bayley to Belly from the top, and Sasha throws Bayley to the floor! She covers Charlotte, and she kicks out.
Sasha with the Bank Statement to Charlotte next. She breaks it up to boot Becky onto Bayley on the floor. She locks the submission back in, but Charlotte won’t submit. She switches to a back slide pin, and that’s enough for the win to take the championship! Post match, Sasha and Charlotte hug it out, but Sasha shoves her away anyway, just because. While not an all time classic by any stretch, this is still phenomenal now, just as it was in 2015.
Seeing the women – four of them, at that – getting plenty of time to wrestle, and tell a story, and have spots, etc. was simply unheard of in WWE. NXT helped to break that stigma a lot in its early years, and that would eventually find its way to the main roster by the end of 2015. Everybody here got a chance to shine. Charlotte, Bayley and Sasha all looked like the stars we all knew they would. The standout for me was Becky, who was still finding herself at this point. She made the most of this big opportunity, and it paid off.
Sasha’s win was historic, as it was her first major championship victory, and the start of a dynasty that she still holds today in AEW. Bayley and Charlotte are still going strong as two of the top stars in all of WWE today, with Charlotte recently winning her second Royal Rumble Match. Becky Lynch has been away from WWE since May of 2024, but according to her husband Seth Rollins, she has been keeping plenty busy, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see her back in WWE this year at some point.
The Horsewomen dominate Women’s Wrestling in the US, and you can see glimpses of that dominance in this match. Perhaps one day again, they’ll face off in a four way!
